What is Gnosticism?
"What is Gnosticism?, that “Gnosticism” is an artificial construct “invented in the early modern period to aid in defining the boundaries of normative Christianity."' Stated in the article "The Inside Story of a Controversial New Text About Jesus" where Karen L. King, a Harvard Divinity professor speaks about the new found text and what to think of it. She defines Gnosticism and explains interpretations of the text. While the Gnostic faith is said to be a past religious belief and movement, many people still cling to the idea and follow this religion.

Gnostic gospels define Jesus as being married. Gnostic individuals were not considered orthodox Christians, rather people who believed that they had secret spiritual knowledge. Much of what Gnostic groups believe is a mix of their secret knowledge with Christian elements and Hellenistic philosophies. Many people view it as an alternative to orthodox Christianity. Gnostic Christianity also believes in non-judgmental reasoning to expand our knowledge and understanding of reality. Gnostic Christians believe Jesus taught this style of thinking and reasoning, thus believe it to be of great importance. This new reasoning will help open up spirituality
Tau Malachi, writer for Llewellyn Journal, speaks about the views and traditions of Gnostic Christianity. The bible is taken apart to deduce reasons how Mary Magdalene and Jesus were married without the statement written out. For example, Mary Magdalene was accompanied by many other women to the tomb of Jesus, just as a widow during that time would have been escorted by other mourners. Gnostic scriptures, however, straightforwardly say that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. "The Gospel of St. Philip goes even further, clearly stating that Mary Magdalene was the wife and consort of Jesus, and that he taught her more than any of his male disciples. This gospel even alludes to her as Jesus’s equal and co-preacher of the Gospel."about God.

Gnostic Christianity is not the only known religion to believe in the marriage of Jesus and one or more women. Mormonism and Mormon Folklore is another religion that believes that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. However, the difference between Mormon folklore and Gnostic Christianity is that this Mormon folklore faith acknowledges many different wives that Jesus had other than Mary Magdalene. Mormon folklore is similar to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints, who also think Jesus was a polygamous. The following three articles concur that Mormons believe the claim that Jesus was married.
